Georgetown Prep Dorm: End-to-End IT, AV, and Security Integration for a Complex Ground-Up Build

Challenge

Georgetown Prep set out to build a new, ground-up dorm designed to anchor a central quad and support a modern residential model, including student housing by floor and 16 family apartments. In projects like this, the toughest risks often live in the gaps—where IT, AV, and security are treated as “owner items,” drawings don’t fully define pathways, and multiple trades assume someone else is responsible. Add a COVID-era build with supply chain disruption, and the likelihood of delays, rework, or non-functional systems at turnover rises quickly. Georgetown Prep needed a partner who could coordinate across the GC, architects, and vendors and stay accountable for the technology outcome—not just the install.

Solution

Silent Solutions led the low-voltage scope end-to-end, working closely with the GC and design team while coordinating dozens of subcontractors. When architectural drawings left out critical details—like conduit routes and connectivity paths—Silent Solutions stepped in to design the solution and oversee field installation with construction crews so systems would function as intended. As the project evolved, Silent Solutions expanded beyond the original IT role to manage broader IT and internal AV needs that often sit outside the GC’s scope.

They also handled complex integration work, including a fully designed auditorium system with a digital control interface that tied together multiple vendors for coordinated control of elements like lighting and shades. In parallel, Silent Solutions delivered building security components such as CCTV and access control, ensuring the facility was prepared for long-term operations.

Results

The project helped enable a major transformation of Georgetown Prep’s residential experience, with technology systems that worked together reliably in a demanding construction environment. Silent Solutions kept progress moving through real-world problem solving—like standing up a temporary wireless network when dedicated equipment was backordered—so operational needs stayed supported.

  • Reduced turnover risk through comprehensive testing of thousands of low-voltage cables

  • Integrated IT, AV, and security systems across multiple vendors and trades

  • Established an ongoing partnership post-construction (support and follow-on upgrades)
